Interconnected alarms are wired, or linked wirelessly, so smoke anywhere in the house sets off every alarm. Compare it with alarms that work alone.
1. Night. Everyone is asleep. The alarms are wired to the house power, with a battery backup in case the power is out.2. Smoke. A pan left on the stove. Smoke reaches the alarm nearest the kitchen first.3. Alarm. Interconnected alarms all sound at once, including the ones in the bedrooms at the other end of the house.Without interconnection, only the kitchen-side alarm sounds. Behind closed bedroom doors, it may not wake anyone.4. Get out. Everyone wakes up with time to get out. That’s the point of interconnection, and why code requires it in new homes and many remodels.Precious minutes can pass before anyone notices. Interconnecting the alarms closes that gap.
California follows clear rules for where alarms belong. Older homes often fall short of them, especially on CO alarms and interconnection. We bring yours up to date.
CO guidance: U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends CO alarms on each level of the home and outside separate sleeping areas, and notes that interconnected alarms are best (CPSC safety tips). New work follows the California codes in force; we confirm the requirements for your home on site.
Alarms don’t last forever. The date is printed on the back of each one.
For homeowners, landlords and property managers. Every alarm is tested before we leave, and you learn what each sound means.
Usually one visit for the whole home.

One in every bedroom, one in the hallway or area outside the bedrooms, and at least one on every level of the home. Larger homes and long hallways may need more. We check your layout on site.
Outside the sleeping areas and on every level of the home. In California they’re required in homes with gas appliances, a fireplace or an attached garage. A combination smoke + CO alarm in the hallway covers both.
The alarms are linked, by wire or wirelessly, so when one detects smoke or CO, every alarm in the home sounds. It’s required in new homes and many remodels, and it matters most when bedrooms are far from where a fire starts.
Hardwired alarms run on the home’s power with a battery backup, and they’re the standard for interconnected systems. Battery-only alarms are better than nothing, but they depend on someone changing batteries.
Smoke alarms every 10 years. CO alarms according to the manufacturer, usually 5 to 10 years; many give an end-of-life warning. The date is printed on the back.
A chirp every minute or so usually means a low backup battery or an alarm at the end of its life. If yours is more than 10 years old, replace it rather than just the battery.
Yes. We replace them with current models, using adapters where the connectors differ, and make sure they’re interconnected and tested together.
In California, rental units with gas appliances, a fireplace or an attached garage need CO alarms. We install them in rental units and multi-unit buildings.
It depends on how many alarms, whether wiring is already in place and the ceilings. We don’t quote over the phone; call (844) 425-1889 for a free on-site estimate and you get a clear quote before any work starts.
Our work comes with a 2-year labor warranty, and the alarms carry their manufacturer’s warranty.
